garage and guest quarters - malibu, ca. (unbuilt)

The existing garage to a John Lautner house, for which I had been the project  architect, was at the time being used as an art studio. There was only one covered parking space. The owner wanted to keep the studio and open it to the entry garden court while having the cars parked in a garage. The new garage was to have a Maid’s and/or Guest quarters above.  A rear garage door was provided for drive through access to a small motor court and carport beyond. Available space was severely limited which, considering also the dominant forms of the existing buildings, suggested remaining within that original vocabulary.  The project died after the property  was unexpectedly sold before construction began.
